OPTIONAL PROGRAMME
COLMAR AND THE WINE
ROUTE
FULL-DAY TOUR
Departure 9.00 / Return 17.00
Sunday, May 26, 2002
From / to Palais des Congrès
Departure to Obernai. A visit
of that busy town make you dream of the age of the Renaissance which
has generously given Obernai its immense wealth: a proud belfry
overlooking the Market square, a town hall finely decorated and
pretty half timbered residences are the genuine witnesses of a rich
and renowned past. |
 |
 |
Forwards to Ribeauvillé. The
south and east entrances have preserved their towers crowned with
the nests of storks and the "tour des Bouchers" straight
and square, in the centre of the city, with its gargoyles and its
old clock face, are the only remains of the surrounding walls which
once separated the interior quarters.
Lunch in Ribeauvillé. |
| In the afternoon, departure to Colmar.
A guided visit of the city and also a visit to the Unterlinden
Museum are included. This museum has been established in a
former Dominican monastery that was founded in 1232 next to a chapel
dedicated to Saint-Jean-sous-le-Tilleul. The museum boasts the
prestigious retable of Issenheim painted by Grünewald in 1510-1515
but also important collections of Rhenish sculpture and painting
from the end of the Middle Ages through the Renaissance.
Back to Strasbourg. |
