Dear Colleagues,

We kindly invite you to attend and actively participate in the XVI^th International Workshop of the European Helicobacter Study Group (EHSG) to be held in Stockholm, Sweden, September 3-6, 2003. The scientific program will be on the frontline of the field of Helicobacter research with areas of greatest interest for both clinicians and scientists.

The Workshop will have a series of state-of-the-art lectures, round table discussions, workshops and poster sessions.

Clinic Meets Basic Research will be an overall theme. The two main themes of the meeting will be Gastric Cancer and Transmission and Early Manifestation.

The following topics will be most important

• Gastric cancer – changing epidemiology in developing and developed countries

• Transmission and manifestations in paediatrics

• Uninvestigated dyspepsia– what will be the role of primary care physicians and gastroenterologists?

• Host-bacterium interactions

• Chronic inflammation versus protective immunity

• Gastric and enterohepatic Helicobacters

• New treatment strategies

The venue for the congress will be the Stockholm International Fairs. We will invite the industry to arrange symposia during the day on Wednesday and in the evenings of Thursday and Friday. The Helicobacter meeting will take place from Thursday morning September 4 until lunch Saturday September 6.

The inauguration ceremony will be on Wednesday afternoon, September 3, 2003 followed by a reception, to which you are invited by the City and County Council of Stockholm. The reception will be arranged in the City Hall, the place where the Nobel festivities for the Nobel Laureates take place every year. All delegates and accompanying persons are invited to this buffet dinner.
