Welcome Cocktail and guided tour at the Kunsthaus:
enjoy typical Styrian cuisine and the highlights of the art exhibition
Address: Lendkai 1, A-8020 Graz
On the banks of the river Mur, on the corner of the Südtirolerplatz
and the Lendkai, Graz has a new architectural landmark: the Kunsthaus
Graz. The designers of this project, the London architects Peter Cook
and Colin Fournier, created an impressive synthesis which unites their
innovative design language with the historic setting of this urban
district along the Mur. The aesthetic dialogue between the new biomorphic
structure on the bank of the Mur and the old clock tower on Grazs
famous Schloßberg (Castle Hill) is the trade-mark of a city
aiming to create a productive tension between tradition and avant-garde.
In content as well as from an urbanistic point of view, the new Kunsthaus
Graz acts as an interface between past and future. On the occasion
of the European Cultural Capital 2003 activities, the City of Graz
was giving itself the Kunsthaus, a gift for the future.

Gala Dinner at the Alte Universität
Aula
EUR 35.- per person
Address: Hofgasse 14, 8010 Graz
Gala Dinner with dance and entertainment programme
The University of Graz was founded at a time when the Jesuits dominated
the intellectual, religious and cultural life of the city of Graz.
They left their mark on the Grazer Stadtkrone, the urban
ensemble at the city centre comprising the Castle, the Cathedral,
the Old University and other buildings. Higher education in Europe
was largely in the Jesuits hands until the order was dissolved
in 1773. The University of Graz, originally accommodated in the Jesuit
College (Seminary), moved to a new building at the centre of the Grazer
Stadtkrone in 1607, which had been founded by Arch-Duke Ferdinand
II. The original features of the building have been largely preserved
to this very day. Between 1905 and 2000, the premises of the Old University
housed the provincial archives.
With its renovation completed in 2005, the building is now used for
official functions and external events. The conversion of the Old
University of Graz may be regarded as a model of successful conservation
and renewal. Owing to its location within a historical urban ensemble,
this late Baroque building, adorned with magnificent frescoes, is
of particular interest.
